Offerings
The curriculum is intended to meet the needs of students of all levels, from young Pre-Twinkle students to those beyond the Suzuki books. Tuition includes a daily private lesson masterclass, group repertoire class, and musicianship class. Students may also register for an additional elective and/or chamber music.
Private Lesson Masterclass Students are placed in a small group of students at their level who share a daily private lesson hour. Generally there are four students in a class for books 1-4 and three students for books 5 and up.
Group Repertoire Class This is a larger group that works together to review and polish repertoire, refine technique, and develop ensemble and leadership skills. Group Repertoire classes prepare at least one piece for the final concert.
Musicianship Classes:
Music Mind Games: A fun and innovative approach to music reading and theory using hands-on games and cooperative learning. For pre-readers or beginning readers who are not ready for orchestra.
Orchestra: There are three levels of orchestra, including Beginning Reading Orchestra, Blue Ridge Orchestra, and Sinfonia. Students are placed according to playing level, reading level, age, and orchestral experience. Orchestras perform in a final concert at the end of camp.
Guitar Reading Ensemble: A reading ensemble for more advanced guitarists with at least basic reading skills (all notes in first position with simple rhythms).
Chamber Music For students with at least intermediate reading skills (see registration form) and minimum playing level Suzuki book four (violin, guitar) book three (cello, viola). Students are placed in a small ensemble of 3-5 students that is coached daily by a faculty member.
Electives:

Celtic Cello: Open to cellists book 2 and above. A study of Irish and Scottish tunes, ornamentation, and the use of a bass instrument in traditional music.

Early Childhood Music and Movement: Open to children ages 2-5 and a caregiver. Singing, musical games, finger plays, rhythm instruments, and movement.
Music Mind Games: While this musicianship class is included for all students who are not ready for orchestra, it may also be taken by siblings who play any instrument.
Adult Violin Class: A beginning class for adults who have never played the violin or are just starting with their child. Please provide your own violin.
Classical Guitar: Open to ages five through adult. Learn the beginning techniques and style of playing in the classical style. Please provide your own classical guitar.
Folk Dancing: Open to ages five through adult. Learn traditional line and circle dances with an experienced dancer/dance caller.
Parent Sessions
Parents are invited to daily lectures/discussions on topics related to Suzuki philosophy and Suzuki parenting. These are given by different faculty members or parents who have a particular topic of interest to share.
Solo Recitals
Students may choose to perform on a solo recital, by indicating this on the registration form and completing a Recital Information Form. The recital piece should be a polished solo piece that is memorized, fluent, and will show the student’s best playing– a piece that has been studied over a period of time. Recital pieces should be chosen in consultation with the home teacher, and should ideally have been previously played with piano. Students will have one rehearsal with piano for the solo recital.
